  今年,实验ALevel《牛剑港三项目》迎来大丰收:46封牛剑G5、31封港前三录取,录取数量与专业含金量双双刷新纪录。

  亮眼的数据是硬核实力的最好见证,但比起光鲜的录取榜单,我们更想走进每一份Offer的背后,看见少年最真实的成长故事。今天的主角,是自带松弛感、金句不断的“社牛少年”——马日朗Ricky。和他相处下来,你很容易被他的风趣开朗圈粉:坦率真实、浑身是梗,偶尔的“抽象脑洞”让他格外鲜活、与众不同。

  他从不会刻意标榜自己,敢坦然调侃“没上剑桥,是因为我压根没考上”,也会老实交代学英语的动力:“英语说得好真的太帅了”。松弛随性是他的底色,但藏在活泼外表下的,是他对经济学最纯粹、最深沉的热爱与思考。对Ricky而言,经济学从来不是应试刷题、冲刺升学的工具,而是解读生活、认知世界的独特方式。

  也正是这份纯粹的热爱,让他在这个录取季成功斩获UCL王牌专业之一——经济学专业的录取。该专业常年稳居英国经济学领域前列,以极高的学术要求和严苛的选拔标准著称。2025年诺贝尔经济学奖得主 Philippe Aghion 教授曾在此任教。截至目前,UCL的校友及师生中已诞生了33位诺贝尔奖得主。

  他用实力证明了自己,也用热爱奔赴属于自己的前路。

  Impressive statistics speak volumes about our core strengths. Yet beyond the glittering offer roll, we want to delve into the stories behind each acceptance and uncover the genuine growth of our students. Our spotlight today falls on Ricky Ma, an easygoing, quick-witted "social butterfly" with a knack for memorable one-liners. Anyone who spends time with him is quickly won over by his wit and openness—genuine, full of humour, and occasionally blessed with wildly creative ideas that make him truly one of a kind.

  He never boasts about his achievements. He jokes candidly that he “didn’t make it to Cambridge simply because I didn’t get in”, and openly admits his motivation for learning English: “Speaking good English just looks incredibly cool”. Laid-back and unpretentious by nature, beneath his lively exterior lies a pure and profound passion for economics, paired with thoughtful insight. For Ricky, economics is never just a tool for exam preparation or university applications; it is a unique lens through which he interprets daily life and understands the world.

  It was precisely this genuine passion that earned him an offer this admissions season from one of UCL’s most prestigious programmes – Economics. Consistently ranked among the top economics programmes in the UK, it is renowned for its exceptionally high academic standards and rigorous selection. Professor Philippe Aghion, the 2025 Nobel laureate in Economic Sciences, once taught here. To date, UCL has been associated with 33 Nobel laureates among its alumni, faculty and students.

  Environment shapes a person, and the A-Level Division of Sendelta has shaped me.

  如今松弛自律、目标清晰的Ricky,也曾有过迷茫被动的求学阶段。来到实验ALevel之前,高压紧凑的课程节奏填满了他的日常,每天十节课的排课,让他只能被动跟着进度赶路,机械刷题、埋头学习,根本没有空余时间喘息,更没有机会静下心思考自己真正的兴趣与方向。

  而实验 ALevel 带给他最深刻的改变,是规划能力和自学能力的成长。

  无论是IG阶段还是AL阶段,在实验ALevel都可以选择自己感兴趣的科目,“那剩下的时间干什么?学习呗。”他说得轻描淡写。但正是这些看似“空出来”的时间,让他摆脱了机械学习的状态,开始“主动学”——自己规划:今天学什么?补哪里?查什么资料?研究哪个感兴趣的方向?慢慢地,他不再是被动地完成作业,而是主动地去探索知识的边界。

  松弛的学习氛围,不仅滋养了他的自律,也让他收获了最纯粹的青春时光。在这里,他结识了一群志同道合的挚友,大家既能并肩奋斗、周末相约图书馆自习,也能结伴骑行、奔赴山野放松身心。他们还笑着总结出专属“血泪教训”:“千万不能一起学习,效率真的会大打折扣”。看似调皮的调侃,恰恰是少年最真实的相处模样。闲暇之余,打球、运动、解压放松,在欢声笑语中并肩成长,收获了最珍贵的友谊。

  环境从不会直接给出标准答案,却会悄悄赋予人寻找答案的能力。而实验ALevel,正是那个让Ricky开始主动奔跑的地方。

  Before joining the A-Level Division, his days were packed into an intense, rigid schedule. With ten classes a day, he could only follow the pace passively, drilling questions mechanically and burying himself in textbooks with no time to breathe, let alone reflect on his real interests and future direction.

  The most profound change the A-Level Division brought him was the growth of his planning and self-study abilities.

  From IG to A-Level stages, he was free to choose subjects he truly enjoyed at the A-Level Division. “What did I do with the extra time? I studied,” he says casually. Yet those seemingly “free” periods freed him from rote learning and allowed him to take charge of his education. He began to plan proactively: what to learn each day, which gaps to fill, what materials to research, and which fields of interest to explore. Gradually, he stopped merely completing assignments passively and started pushing the boundaries of knowledge on his own.

  The relaxed learning atmosphere not only nurtured his self-discipline but also granted him an authentic and precious youth. Here, he met a group of like-minded friends who studied alongside him in the library on weekends, yet also cycled and hiked together to unwind in nature. They even joked about their own “hard-earned lesson”: “Never study together — it really kills productivity.” This playful remark perfectly captures the genuine bond among teenagers. In his spare time, he played ball games, exercised, and relaxed with his peers, growing together amid laughter and forging lifelong friendships.

  Environment never hands out ready-made answers, but it quietly equips people with the ability to find them. And the A-Level Division is exactly where Ricky learned to run toward his future on his own initiative.

  “ 经济学在教我读懂世界,

  而我也在用它读懂生活 ”

  Economics is teaching me to understand the world, and I am using it to make sense of life.

  活泼有趣、松弛随性是他的外在标签,而深耕学术、善于思辨,是他藏在骨子里的底气。早在初中阶段,Ricky就对经济学萌生了浓厚的兴趣。在他看来,这门学科自带独特的逻辑与格局,能够用专业理论拆解日常百态、解释社会现象。平日里,他习惯主动关注各类时政新闻,主动跟进经济热点,翻看专业科普内容,在日积月累的碎片化学习中,慢慢养成了用经济视角观察世界的思维习惯。

  来到实验ALevel后,Ricky在选课时毫不犹豫地选择了经济学。不同于浅层的课堂学习,在这里,他的经济学认知被不断拓宽、深化,更得以在师生深度交流中碰撞出全新的思维火花。

  课堂之外,他常常与经济学科Doris老师深入探讨各类时政与社会议题。从英国《烟草与电子烟法案》背后的青少年管控逻辑,到经济下行周期里图书馆座无虚席的社会现象与替代品理论,再到有效利他主义等深度学术概念,师生二人总能跳出课本局限,从生活现象延伸至专业理论,从社会热点深挖底层逻辑。常态化的深度思辨与学术探讨,让他不再局限于书本定义,真正学会用专业、辩证的经济学思维看待现实问题。

  热爱不止于日常深耕,更在于主动突破。为了打磨学术能力、拓宽知识边界,Ricky也主动走出舒适区,勇敢挑战高难度国际竞赛,将书本理论转化为硬核学术实力。凭借扎实的知识储备和深度思辨能力,他在第25届John Locke论文竞赛中脱颖而出,成功斩获入围奖(Shortlisted),从全球63328名参赛者中突围(赛事入围率仅18.65%)。

  备赛全程,最让他受益匪浅的,是和Luke老师的多次头脑风暴。两人一起拆解题目、深挖核心、推敲逻辑,把课堂理论和现实经济问题深度结合,不断打磨论证角度、优化观点、完善逻辑。没有繁琐的实地调研,Ricky依靠扎实的文献梳理、严谨的逻辑推演和灵活的知识运用,让论文的每一个观点都有理有据。

  对他而言,整个过程没有枯燥的应付,反而在一步步钻研、反复思考的过程中,真切感受到学术探索的乐趣,慢慢突破自己的认知边界。

  从年少时的心生向往,到课堂中的深耕沉淀,再到国际竞赛的实战突破,Ricky始终以热爱为底色,稳步前行。他把一份纯粹的兴趣,打磨成专属自己的核心竞争力,让经济学思维融入日常、刻进认知。

  Playful, easygoing, and laid-back are his outward traits, yet his inner strength lies in his academic dedication and sharp critical thinking. Ricky developed a strong interest in economics as early as junior high school. To him, this subject carries a unique logic and vision, allowing him to unpack daily life and interpret social phenomena through professional theories. In his spare time, he keeps up with current affairs and economic hotspots, reads popular science on economics, and gradually forms the habit of observing the world through an economic lens via consistent, fragmented learning.

  After joining the A‑Level Division, Ricky chose economics without hesitation. Far beyond superficial classroom learning, his understanding of economics was continuously broadened and deepened, and he gained fresh perspectives through in-depth exchanges with teachers and peers.

  Outside class, he often discusses current affairs and social issues in depth with Ms. Doris, his economics teacher. Topics range from the logic of youth protection behind the UK Tobacco and Vaping Products Act, to the social phenomenon of packed libraries during economic downturns and the theory of substitutes, to advanced academic concepts such as effective altruism. The pair constantly go beyond textbooks, connecting real-life observations to professional theories and exploring the underlying logic of social trends. Regular in-depth discussions have freed him from rigid textbook definitions and enabled him to analyze real-world problems with professional, dialectical economic thinking.

  His passion goes beyond daily study; it also drives him to push his limits. To strengthen his academic ability and expand his knowledge, Ricky stepped out of his comfort zone to challenge demanding international competitions, turning textbook theories into solid academic strength. With solid knowledge and keen critical thinking, he stood out among 63,328 participants worldwide and was shortlisted in the 25th John Locke Essay Competition (only 18.65% of entries were shortlisted).

  Throughout his preparation, he benefited greatly from multiple brainstorming sessions with Mr. Luke. Together they analyzed questions, explored core arguments, refined logic, deeply integrated classroom theories with real-world economic issues, and polished his thesis from structure to reasoning. Without extensive field research, he built a well-supported essay through rigorous literature review, logical deduction, and flexible application of knowledge.

  For him, the process was never tedious or perfunctory. Instead, through repeated research and reflection, he truly experienced the joy of academic exploration and gradually expanded his intellectual boundaries.

  From early fascination, to in-depth classroom learning, to breakthroughs in international competitions, Ricky has moved steadily forward driven by genuine passion. He transformed a simple interest into his unique core competitiveness, integrating economic thinking into his daily life and shaping his worldview.

  “ 从目标是王曼爱华,

  到敢申请剑桥,

  我已经战胜了我自己 ”

  From aiming for the Russell Group universities, to daring to apply to Cambridge

  — I have already defeated myself.

  刚进入实验ALevel的时候,Ricky的心态很保守。那时候他对学习没有太多野心,只想着踏踏实实学好课程,冲刺一所稳妥的大学就足够了,从来不敢给自己设定更高的目标。彼时的他,学习方式也偏应试,学经济学只会死记硬背定义、套用模板,只为完成课业任务,缺少深度思考和探索的勇气。

  而改变他的,是学校包容的育人氛围,以及每一位用心赋能的老师。“这里的老师不会刻板定义学生,总能发现每个人的闪光点,一直耐心鼓励我、引导我。”在老师们的正向引导和课堂熏陶下,Ricky的学习思维彻底蜕变。他不再局限于“拿分过关”,而是主动深究理论底层逻辑、梳理因果链条、打磨思辨评价,真正做到读懂知识、吃透原理、活用理论。

  思维的进阶、扎实的大考预估成绩,搭配亮眼的雅思分数,让他逐渐打破自我设限,跳出只求稳妥的舒适区,从最初锁定“王曼爱华”的保守目标,勇敢迈出冲刺剑桥的脚步,向全球顶尖名校发起挑战。

  冲刺剑桥的申请季充满未知与挑战,Ricky也曾陷入迷茫、困惑的阶段。但全程依托学校牛剑港三项目的全方位赋能,在老师们的精准托举下,他稳步踏过申请路上的每一道关卡。

  项目负责人管老师全程精细指导,从专业定位、院校筛选,到文书打磨、材料整理、笔面试备战,逐一拆解难点、规避申请误区,帮他理清完整的申请逻辑。班主任Joyce时刻关注他的学习状态与心理状态,配合升学团队做好整体规划,结合他的经济学特长,针对性指导他参与NEC竞赛、科研项目、社会实践等各类学术活动,补齐信息差和履历短板,让他的学术脉络更加完整清晰。

  When Ricky first joined the A‑Level Division, he held a cautious mindset. Back then, he had little ambition for his studies; he only wanted to master his courses steadily and aim for a safe university option, never daring to set higher goals for himself. His approach to learning was also exam-oriented: when studying economics, he merely memorised definitions by rote and applied templates mechanically, just to complete assignments, without the courage for deep thinking or exploration.

  What changed him was the school’s inclusive educational environment and every dedicated teacher who supported his growth.“Teachers here don’t label students rigidly. They always discover the strengths in each person, and have patiently encouraged and guided me all along.”Under the positive guidance of his teachers and the influence of classroom learning, Ricky’s academic mindset transformed completely. He no longer focused only on “scoring points to pass”, but began to explore the underlying logic of theories, sort out causal chains, and refine critical analysis. He truly understood the knowledge, mastered the principles, and learned to apply theories flexibly.

  With his improved thinking, solid predicted examination results, and impressive IELTS score, he gradually broke through his self-imposed limits and stepped out of his comfort zone. From his original conservative goal of targeting the Russell Group, he bravely set his sights on Cambridge and challenged one of the world’s top universities.

  The application season for Cambridge was filled with uncertainty and challenges, and Ricky also went through periods of confusion and self-doubt. Yet supported by the comprehensive guidance of the school’s Oxbridge & HK Top 3 Program and the precise mentoring of his teachers, he steadily navigated every stage of the application process.

  Teacher Guan, the program director, provided meticulous guidance throughout — from major selection and university shortlisting, to personal statement polishing, document preparation, and admission test and interview preparation. He broke down each difficulty, helped avoid common application pitfalls, and established a clear and complete application strategy.His form tutor, Joyce, kept close track of his academic and mental state, collaborated with the university counselling team on overall planning, and, drawing on his strengths in economics, directed him to participate in the NEC competition, research projects, social practice and other academic activities. These experiences filled information gaps, strengthened his profile, and made his academic journey more coherent and impressive.

  What impressed him most was the devoted support from his university counsellor, Ms. Amanda. To craft a high-quality personal statement, they revised it repeatedly, word by word, going through more than a dozen drafts to perfect every detail and maximise his application strength.

  Although he did not receive an offer from Cambridge in the end, Ricky felt fully at peace holding economics offers from UCL and KCL. In his eyes, the true meaning of the application season never lay in a single acceptance letter. This experience of giving his all was more like an inward journey of self-discovery. He reconnected with why he loved economics, clarified which universities and majors suited him best, and figured out how he wanted to continue his studies in the future. Through constant research, comparison and reflection, he clearly distinguished the differences between economics, finance, business and mathematical fields, and found his true academic path.

  — and so am I.

  看着学校如火如荼推进的三期校园扩建工程,Ricky笑着调侃,逃不过“毕业即装修”的青春宿命。玩笑之外,更多的是由衷的感慨与欣慰。他见证着学校一步步迭代升级、愈发蓬勃,而学校也见证着他从懵懂迷茫、自我设限的少年,一步步变得松弛通透、独立自信,完成了全方位的蜕变成长。

  三年时光,他收获的不只是亮眼的升学成绩、名校录取,更可贵的是成长的底气、思辨的能力与松弛豁达的心态。

  曾经有老师赠予他一句箴言:Audentes fortuna iuvat(命运眷顾勇者)。
