Our school’s American High department held their Summer School from August 4th , 2019 to August 17th – a 14 day camp. During this time all new students became fully integrated into school life and deep connections were established between students and teachers.
This Summer School’s main focus was learning. The teachers assisted the students to adjust to campus life and helped them to master many learning skills. The Foreign teachers ensured that a serious learning atmosphere prevailed and came up with innovative teaching methods. Cathy wrote in her “Summer School Impressions”, that the foreign teachers required the students to be bolder and more engaged in their classes. Foreign teacher Ms. Karren has adopted a points-based approach, which will exempt those who have grasped the concepts of the lesson and who meet certain criteria in class, from the full load of homework. Irene noted in her “Summer School Experience” that Karren’s approach not only livened the mood of the students; it also motivated her to work harder. Irene rarely takes the initiative to speak in English, but this encouraged her to take a more active part in English class, adding to her sense of accomplishment at this summer camp.
The department received many favorable comments on their lesson presentation and implementation of key points of knowledge. In the students’ “Summer School Feelings”, all the teachers were thanked individually. The general organizer of the summer school, Mr. Huang Wenguan, was ranked first with students Ken and John when they expressed their gratitude to all the teachers for their efforts.Through the guidance and psychology classes and teachers’ skillful lesson presentation, students were better equipped to absorb the important points of each lesson.
Students were also moved to put pen to paper about the welcoming atmosphere in their dormitory life, expressing their gratitude to the logistics management. This design of systems and management also reflects the conscientious and dedicated school leadership team. With learning as the centerpoint, all departments strive to achieve their best results so that teaching and learning can take place in an optimal atmosphere.
This Summer Camp has given me a rich experience of academic life.
The dorm has an atmosphere like home. The students had wonderful conversations there.
I looked forward to every day because the students and teachers are very interesting. I don’t know what it will be like after school starts, but I know my original intention of learning will not change.
I got to meet new friends and I want to have a heart of “study hard and make progress every day”.
I hope to change my life here.
Here I felt a different learning environment and learnt a lot new knowledge.
The teachers gave me a lot of help. They were friendly but serious. It enriched my summer camp experience.
This summer camp has increased my confidence and made me speak English with confidence. I was also confident enough to make friends with my classmates.
This summer camp was very important for our freshmen and gives us a mental preparation for the new school year.
The friendships we make here are long-lasting.
No matter how long the road will be, we should stick to it and never forget the original intention of studying.
I’m looking forward for school to begin.
